There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino wagering is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, features 150 slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of amenities in addition to the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
