Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from nearby Thailand, where casino wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that features numerous amenities aside from the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight table games.
