Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den betting is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, contains 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that features many amenities accompanying the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
