The entire process of living in Zimbabwe is something of a gamble at the moment, so you may imagine that there would be little desire for patronizing Zimbabwe’s gambling halls. In fact, it appears to be operating the other way around, with the desperate economic circumstances creating a higher eagerness to wager, to attempt to discover a quick win, a way from the problems.
For many of the citizens living on the meager nearby wages, there are two established types of gaming, the state lotto and Zimbet. Just as with practically everywhere else in the world, there is a state lotto where the odds of succeeding are remarkably small, but then the winnings are also remarkably big. It’s been said by economists who look at the idea that the lion’s share don’t purchase a ticket with an actual assumption of winning. Zimbet is founded on one of the local or the United Kingston football divisions and involves determining the outcomes of future matches.
Zimbabwe’s casinos, on the other shoe, pander to the astonishingly rich of the state and vacationers. Up till a short time ago, there was a exceptionally substantial vacationing business, built on safaris and trips to Victoria Falls. The market woes and associated violence have cut into this trade.
Among Zimbabwe’s gambling halls, there are 2 in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has five gaming tables and slots, and the Plumtree Casino, which has only slot machine games. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has just slots. Mutare contains the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, the two of which offer table games, one armed bandits and video poker machines, and Victoria Falls has the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, each of which offer video poker machines and blackjack, roulette, and craps tables.
In addition to Zimbabwe’s gambling dens and the above mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is very like a parimutuel betting system), there are a total of 2 horse racing tracks in the state: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the second municipality) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.
Given that the economy has contracted by beyond 40% in recent years and with the associated poverty and violence that has resulted, it is not well-known how healthy the vacationing business which is the backbone of Zimbabwe’s gambling dens will do in the near future. How many of them will be alive till conditions improve is basically not known.
